While many shoe manufacturers are getting lighter with each iteration, the stalwart Brooks stability shoe has got a little (*whisper it*) heavier in its new iteration. Yikes! What will Rachel make of that?
The fit
Safe hands when it comes to fit. Always a Cinderella slipper for me in my usual 5.5 (I always half size up for running shoes).
The comfort
Sometimes I wonder if I’ve worn too many Adrenalines over the years to be objective about this.
To say to a reader that they feel as comfy as Adrenalines normally do –perhaps a bit more thanks to slightly softer cushioning in this model – is not helpful. So let’s try harder… the stability shaping is very effective but doesn’t feel obtrusive and weird on the foot. In other words, just the right amount of arch support. Plenty of room in the toe box for a wider foot like mine. And yes, they are more forgiving than older iterations, but they don’t have the squidge of maximalist shoes.
Who and what is this shoe for?
Brooks Adrenaline is one of the most popular running shoes on the planet, thanks to the reliable and moderate support it gives to overpronators and runners needing ankle or knee support. The Guideails keep my foot in the right position over long miles so I don’t get ITB or knee pain.
On the run
The thing I love about them is that they are the shoes I trust most to perform over on almost any run. Like a partner you can trust to be on form at any occasion, be it Saturday clothes shopping, a first meeting with your best mate or a long weekend with your family. Yes, sometimes
I might fancy a fling with an Asics or a New Balance, but when it comes to consistency, nothing beats an Adrenaline. I’ve been wearing them for weeks and they feel equally good for a quick 5K but also for a long Sunday slog halfway through a marathon training plan. One thing they aren’t good at is mud so I stick to pavements and dry paths in mine.
