Broadly speaking, women runners have a real problem with race-day confidence – especially with longer distances – and it’s easy to see why.
Until recently, the images used by organisations to market events in the UK have tended to follow a theme: 5K? Lots of women with happy faces. Ultra marathons? Extremely serious, thin white men. There are, of course, exceptions to the rule, and in recent years, plenty more of them – we’re definitely heading in the right direction.
