HOW I TRAIN
Fernanda Maciel
Fernanda Maciel’s relentless dedication, resilience and love for exploration have earned her a top spot in the ultra-running world
Tell us about your hardest race?
It was the Marathon des Sables, a 250K across the Sahara Desert in Morocco. It’s self-supported, meaning you have to carry all your own food and mandatory gear. Temperatures reach 48°C during the day and drop to 0°C at night. I’ve raced it twice and made the podium both times.
Where do you like to train?
I love Chamonix, in the French Alps. It has countless beautiful trails and offers the unique opportunity to run on glaciers and at high altitude. The terrain is both challenging and stunning, which makes it perfect for serious mountain training.
