Running on a treadmill has more benefits than just helping you avoid running in the rain or the dark. When used correctly, a treadmill can be a great training tool to help you maximise the benefits of your sessions. It takes the guesswork out of pacing your runs so you can be sure you’re running at the right speed.
Treadmill training
Running on a treadmill can sometimes feel mentally tougher than running outside as there’s less to distract you from putting one foot in front of the other. A good way to combat this is to use your treadmill runs as interval sessions. This has several benefits: it breaks up the time and distance into manageable chunks, it means you’re hitting the right pace in your session, and it means you can spend less time on the belt as interval sessions are shorter than easy runs.
