Behind the tape
Expert advice to get the details right in your crime fiction, from serving police officer Lisa Cutts
Q
In my novel, the main character, fifteen-year-old Rose, goes to a party, then stays at a friend’s house. Returning home, the next day she finds that a police officer is talking to her mum. The police officer tells her that a very expensive piece of jewellery went missing at the party. The host, Alexa 17, has said that Rose seemed particularly interested in the bracelet. The police officer asks if he can look in Rose’s bag. Rose says yes. He finds the bracelet in the bag. Rose says that she has no clue how it got there, that it must have fallen in accidentally.
