WRITERS’ CIRCLES
FLAT PAC K FUN
This month, it’s time to get creative in a practical way, so roll up your sleeves and channel your inner engineer and builder to inspire your writing in these writing group exercises from Julie Phillips
Julie Phillips
Constructing writing and models or flatpacks use similar skills and knowledge bases as writing. Having fun, being creative in a different way, by problem solving and allowing the group to use their hands practically, will ignite the creative areas of the brain leading to some exciting developments in their writing.
Build it
Take a couple of cheap and simple flat pack kits or model kits in and ask the group to construct them. Take the instructions away from some of the kits and have a small but essential piece missing from others, with other kits having some parts from a different kit entirely! How do the groups work together to get them constructed? Do they succeed in building them? What skills did they need to engage in order to complete the tasks?
