Writing Magazine presents a selection of paying wood-crafts markets currently accepting contributions. We strongly recommend that you read back issues, familiarise yourself with their guidelines before submitting and check websites for submission details.

The Guild of Master Craftsmen is Europe’s leading woodworking publisher, producing four market-leading magazine titles for woodworkers: Furniture and Cabinetmaking, Woodworking Crafts, Woodturning and Wood Carving. The technical editor is Anthony Bailey.

Woodturning and Wood Carving cover very precise disciplines, and contributors to those magazines tend to have specialist knowledge of being practicing wood turner and carvers,’ Anthony explained. ‘The readers are very much obsessive woodworkers – they may be different skill levels, but it’s their big thing.’

Furniture and Cabinetmaking and Woodworking Crafts have recently been relaunched.

Furniture and Cabinetmaking has a light, airy, contemporary feel –it’s the “posh” one,’ said Anthony. Its features have to have some kind of access with woodworking – they might cover design, ethics, features about anything that could spark people’s inspiration when it comes to woodworking and making, including cutting-edge techniques. Coverage often includes mixed media. It’s aimed at people interested in a high level, including young designer-makers as well as armchair woodworkers.’

Woodworking Crafts is aimed at hands-on makers. ‘It’s more practical and down-scale – it has a lot of projects; a lot of environmental stuff, green woodworking, forests, woodland management, eco-systems,’ said Anthony. ‘We’re trying to appeal to anyone involved in doing any sort of woodworking, in their shed or back garden.’
