Please could you give me a bit of advice? I’ve been working on a novel and submitted it to various agents and publishers. It’s in something of a genre niche and potentially difficult to place. The great news is that a very credible indie, which normally publishes a specific genre that my book doesn’t entirely match, has not only expressed an interest. All the staff there apparently loved it, and they offered to go ahead with publishing it, but they also said that as a small press, they thought it was too big for them, and that it deserved the attention and marketing clout of a larger publisher and I might want to try to get an agent. I’m in a quandary. Should I take the offer of the credible indie, with all the benefits of regaining control, or attempt to dive into the corporate machine?
Congratulations! I think this is a wonderful situation to be in. You go into a bit more detail in your letter but, in short, I was glad to see that this particular indie publisher is well known for publishing niche books in a revolutionary and exciting way.
