‘Getting my first book deal actually began in bed. ‘It was a Sunday morning, the kids were downstairs watching Noddy and my husband and I were lazing around, having one of those “what if ” conversations about winning the lottery (slightly pointless since neither of us ever buys a ticket).
‘“I’d write a book,” I said without hesitation. “I’ve always wanted to be an author.”
‘I didn’t add that I’d shut myself away one summer, aged seven, to pen my first “novel” – a somewhat bizarre saga about witches and talking dogs that filled an A4 notepad and wore my arm off.
‘Tim looked at me.
‘“Why do you need to win the lottery for that? What’s stopping doing it now?”
