WILLIAM COLES
The author and adventurer tells Lynne Hackles that he likes to hole up in cafés to write undisturbed
William Coles, author of love stories, murder mystery, historical fiction, satire and self-help, is also an adventurer. He does lunatic swims, runs and other crazy stuff.
‘I’m trying to be more judicious about these activities now I’m 55 and see friends who’ve overcooked their running and swimming hobbling around like little old men. So, no more marathons for Billy! Instead, it’s pleasant six milers, yoga classes taught by Magic Mel and sometimes lifting weights in the gym (gosh it’s tedious). No more endurance events for me, save for a ski marathon last spring, but that’s another story. On the Delphic Oracle, there were two mottos for a richer life and they are still there to this day, and just as valid. The first is, Know Thyself. And the second, very pertinent for me, is Everything in Moderation.
