Size matters. This we all know. And bigger is apparently better, although, paradoxically, it’s small that’s said to be perfectly formed. Which makes the progressive swelling of each generation of new car a bit of a puzzle.
Because while the need to encompass modern safety standards goes some way to accounting for the upscaling that means today’s small car is bigger than yesterday’s big car, most of this is attributed to the consumer’s demand for more space. In which case, we’d surely just have bought the next size up.
