We kicked off this issue with a stunning example of a highly detailed diorama. Dioramas have become increasingly popular. They are such a great way to express one’s love for anything miniature. In this case, Sky Burkson created a fantasy world that takes you on a visual adventure. Shawn Carlin also has shared his Halloween diorama with us to get us in the spirit of the season. I feel it’s important to share miniature art that steps outside the dollhouse theme because of the inspiration they give to push boundaries.
When first seeing a surge of diorama artists, I became curious about their techniques. Then I became close friends with Jeff Winkle (American Miniaturist contributor) and he gave me a crash course in creating realistic landscapes. I continued my research and found so many new materials that can be used in 1:12 scale projects.
