Dollhouse Miniatures  |  Issue 100
I can remember when the miniatures I had were only in my dollhouse. Now I have tiny drawer organizers full of minis and shelves of furniture and cases of dolls. What happened? Well, I was filling dollhouses and then selling them. So I was left with all the contents. I sell many of them on eBay, but some are sentimental, so I keep them.
Over the last 10 years I have learned a lot about collecting. At some point I will sell, gift or my collection will be inherited by someone special. I keep this in mind when I’m ready to invest in an expensive miniature I think about its resale value. If I feel it will hold its value or even increase I have no spending guilt. Sometimes there is a piece that makes me so happy I don’t care about resale. Purchasing broken antique dolls is probably not wise but I feel they need a home. I even went so far as to start building an orphanage for broken dolls!
While you are collecting minis keep resale in mind and know that you are keeping a piece of history safe to pass on to another miniaturist in the future. A new item today will be a treasured antique one day so take good care of your collection.
