Dog-sledding adventures in Finland
With Dasher, Dancer, Prancer et al otherwise engaged with pressing festive duties, husky sled is the way to explore Finnish Lapland this winter. Magnetic North Travel’s three-day mushing adventure will take you into the wilderness of Lemmenjoki National Park, a landscape of crisp deep snow and frosted trees that bears a striking resemblance to the scenes rendered on top of a Christmas cake. Here you’ll meet Tinja Myllykangas, a young woman who traded city life to run a husky-sledding business in Finland’s far north. Guests can get involved with her farm’s daily routines and help prepare the dogs, learning about this energetic and hardy breed. The day is spent on an exhilarating journey through forested snowscapes, watching the animals straining at the helm, or frolicking in the powder during well-earned breaks. Finally, take to your freside bed, swaddled in thermal sleeping bags and reindeer hides, to watch stars twinkle above.
