Another topical figure release this month from ICM: ‘To Be Ahead, to Save the Life’ Sappers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (ref. 35753). In the Armed Forces of Ukraine the tasks assigned to sapper units include conducting engineering reconnaissance, and crucially laying and removing minefields. Ukrainian sappers also provide engineering support to their units for defensive or offensive combat operations.
The role of a sapper in the military is considered one of the most dangerous and difficult. They are often forced to work ahead of their infantry, being at the very forefront of combat operations, as they pave the way, literally and figuratively, for the rest of the army. Dogs help sappers find explosive devices. The canine service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine was established in 2017, and with the outbreak of large-scale hostilities, the need for mine detection dogs has increased exponentially. Mines are used by both sides in the war, with tens of thousands now littering the areas of combat operations. ICM’s new kit includes three combat engineers and a dog. The troops are fully equipped with small arms and a mine detector, while the dog has a special harness. Our thanks to ICM for the product information and this kit and this month’s other new releases, principally aviation subjects, should be available by the time you read this (www.icm.com.ua).
