Many swimmers owe the start of their outdoor swimming adventures to The Outdoor Swimming Society (OSS), which formed in 2006 after a bunch of swim-loving strangers made it their mission to get people into rivers and lakes again. I have a fondness for The OSS. In the early days on Facebook the group was a great place to discover places for dips and to share knowledge, I also met fellow swimmers who were willing to plunge into the River Thames with me, some who I still swim with today! OSS Founder Kate Rew has pulled together the collective experience of the swimming community and written a new book, The Outdoor Swimmers’ Handbook, which is out this month. I chatted to Kate to hear about the OSS beginnings, learn more about her new book and we shared memories of OSS events from the past. See page 28 for this month’s Swimterview.
