For 26.2 punishing miles I dreamt of this moment, as the sea unfurled itself ahead of me, first all the way east to Rottingdean, then west to Shoreham and back home to Brighton. Running a marathon was never something I dreamed of doing, rather something that presented itself as an alternate challenge to braving the brutal waves of the English Channel in deep midwinter.
