“It’s important to be happy in your own company“

From accusations of being too straight-laced, to painful public break-ups, Ellie Goulding’s time in the limelight hasn’t always been easy, but she keeps coming back brighter and braver than ever, and that’s exactly why we love her

After a recent gig in Birmingham, Ellie Goulding asked, ‘Can people stop thinking I’m boring, please? I’m not boring. I mean, I care a lot about things like the environment and homelessness, but I can’t pretend to be someone I’m not just to make certain people think I’m interesting.’*

It’s fair to say that Goulding, 29, gets rather a hard time from both the press and the public. She is accused of either not having enough fun – she has long advocated running to stay healthy, and avoids drugs and alcohol – or having too much fun… and is often criticised for her numerous high-profile relationships. It was recently reported she was dating Prince Harry but her last relationship, with McFly bassist Dougie Poynter, seems to have taken its toll on her.
