A very happy August to you all! I hope you have been enjoying the warmer weather with some fun in the sun and fabulous BBQ food — like that of our incredible cover recipe by Moving Mountains. It’s making me drool just writing about it! But summer isn’t purely for BBQs, as our delicious recipes will show you. For those of you who love to sit outside and while away a day with fragrant teas, delicate sandwiches and indulgent cakes and pastries, our afternoon tea spread will be right up your street. If you’re after something a bit healthier this season, we’ve also got you sorted, with our assortment of nourishing bowls packed with fresh and health-boosting fruit, veggies and grains. There’s something for everyone.
We’ve got an animal-packed issue for you this month, featuring some extremely dedicated sanctuaries working hard to make the world a better place. Our interviewee this month, Dan McKernan from Barn Sanctuary in the US, is an inspiration to us all — giving up his job in tech to transform his family’s unused farm into a haven for the planet’s most abused creatures: farmed animals. Make sure to check out what he has to say. The Vegan Life team was also lucky enough to meet the founders of both Hempshall Farm in Cambridgeshire, as well as Lotus Heart Sanctuary on the magical Isle of Skye. How fortunate are we that there are people in this world selfless and compassionate enough to offer freedom and safety to animals? It certainly gives me hope for the future of planet Earth.
