Cherry Tree is a literary annual put together by this prize Washington College undergraduates, which publishes poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and ‘literary shade’, from emerging and established writers worldwide.
Submissions are open until October. The literary shade feature publishes ‘impeccably-crafted shade… poems, short stories, or essays which throw shade at the institutions that have whitewashed our literature and history, be they laws or events or texts authored by dead old cisgender white supremacist misogynistic homophobes’. Shade literature has ‘subversive wit, withering critique’ and most of all it can empower.
