What’s in the Heat & Buildings Strategy?
When the Heat and Buildings Strategy was announced, there was a lot of optimism. I’ve waded through the published document so you don't have to; it's a swamp of stuff that ultimately says very little. The main message is the £5,000 grant for installing a heat pump – though that’s not even half the cost of the appliance.
The total fund is £450m, which equates to 90,000 heat pumps over the next three years. In the past, the PM has said he wants to see 600,000 heat pumps being installed a year from 2028, so what’s happened to the rest? There’s no sign of how they’re planning to upscale this.
