The core purpose of an automated house is to make life easier, but for some the topic can be a confusing minefield to navigate. As a starting point, a smart home installation can control heating, lighting, security and audio-visual (AV) solutions through pre-set programmes, modes and intuitive tech. It can be operated by your phone, tablet, voice and with wall-mounted panels and switches. So how do you go about avoiding the gimmicks and achieving a useful balance?
Prioritise according to your lifestyle
To start with, think about your day-to-day activities and where technology could make considerable improvements. Everyone’s needs will vary, of course, so here are just a few ideas of where smart technology can improve how you interact with your living spaces:
● Work away from home? Consider motorised blinds, lights and even cameras that you can control while out.
● Work at home? With bills rising sharply, energy efficiency is more of a priority than ever. Create intelligent heating zones so you’re not warming unused rooms and, if you’re unexpectedly out all day, turn off the heating remotely.
