What you need: Windows 10 or 11
In our ‘Never miss another software update’ Cover Feature in Issue 697 (read it on our new Back Issue CD and USB stick – see page 34), we recommended UniGetUI as the best way to install and update thousands of programs using package managers. The software itself has now been updated to make it friendlier and faster to use.
UniGetUI now displays logos next to its search results on the Discover Packages tabs, and for software listed on its Software Updates and Installed Packages tabs. This makes it easier to identify programs from their icons as well as their names, though not every entry has a logo. These icons are downloaded once, then stored locally, so UniGetUI doesn’t need to retrieve them for every search or scan, and are resized and compressed to take up minimal drive space. The program now uses an updater called UniGetUI Elevator, which feels more reassuring than the previous ‘GSudo’ tool, and has improved the reliability of its packagefetching operations. As we mentioned in Issue 697 (page 55), if software installation fails you can usually solve the problem by choosing to update or install as an administrator.
