THE GIRL WHO WAITED

THE DOCTOR TAKES AMY POND AND RORY WILLIAMS to Apalapucia to see the paradise world’s soaring silver colonnades, but the TARDIS arrives at the TwoStreams Kindness Facility, an automated hospice for the victims of an incurable Chen7 outbreak. Here, 40,000 residents live a full and happy lifetime, growing old and dying in a single day under the care of Handbot medical robots.

The Doctor and Rory enter the standard Green Anchor time stream where friends and relatives communicate with the residents via a synchronising time glass device. But Amy steps into the compressed Red Waterfall time stream by mistake and becomes trapped there, experiencing a full week within a matter of seconds. Planning to use the time glass to lock onto Amy’s signal and smash through the time wall in the TARDIS, the Doctor tells his companion to find somewhere safe to wait until he can rescue her: although she’s immune to Chen7, the Handbots’ attempts to treat her would prove fatal.
