Baltimore’s fiery hardcore punks wage war on all fronts
Need another young hardcore band to get excited about? Baltimore band Sharptooth’s sophomore album is an expert example of why punk rock and righteous anger continue to endure and inspire. Vocalist Lauren Kashan is without doubt the star. Her snarling delivery and socially conscious lyrics are often stunning, and lines like ‘You’re not a feminist just because you’ve fucked one’ on Hirudinea are just one of many moments of brilliantly destructive takedowns. Her band are no slouches either, giving her an always intense but varied canvas to work on. 153 takes the pace of classic skate punk, while Nevertheless (She Persisted) is not a million miles away from post-rock. Eclectic and incendiary, Transitional Forms is one of 2020’s best hardcore records.
