AN historic carriage has been refurbished in time to celebrate the centenary of the merger of the London & North Western and the Lancashire and Yorkshire railway companies.
Stately Trains-owned Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway directors’ saloon No. 1, built at Newton Heath in 1906, has enjoyed a makeover inside and out after 20 years’ service at the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway.
Stately Trains owner Stephen Middleton told The RM: “John Furness, a volunteer at Embsay has done a cracking job with the paintwork. He does so much research to ensure accuracy.
