THE Science Museum Group is seeking to dispose of the cab from Class 76 electric loco No. 76039, currently on display at the Science & Industry Museum in Manchester (right).
The loco was built as No. E26039 in the city at Gorton Works in 1952 for the electrified Woodhead Route. It was withdrawn in 1977, and the cab was saved when the loco was scrapped in early 1984.
The SMG says it looks to dispose of an object if it is better suited for display with another institution, or is a duplicate of an item already in the collection. In this case, complete classmate No. 76020 (E26020) is on display at the National Railway Museum in York.
