WEST Midlands Mayor Andy Street has said he expects repairs carried out to cracks on the West Midlands Metro (WMM) fleet will avoid a repeat of issues which led to the suspension of services on the system for the second time in six months.
WMM announced the stoppage of all services from November 13, stating that it had become necessary for further attention to underframe cracks, which were initially repaired during a four-day shutdown in June.
Speaking to the BBC prior to the limited resumption of services on December 15, Mr Street said the vehicles were receiving “a very old-fashioned welding repair” and added: “I am confident what we’re doing now to give a permanent repair will be a lasting situation so we won’t have a repeat of this.”
