‘PEAK’ ON FREIGHT: The Great Central Railway’s ‘Last Hurrah’ gala on November 20/21 was a mixed traffic event with six locos in steam and a different diesel on each day. The second day saw ‘Peak’ No. D123 (45125) haul a demonstration freight as the 10.54 from Swithland to Loughborough, seen from the air at Swithland Reservoir.

THE Diesel and Electric Preservation Group says that when repairs to No. D1010 Western Campaigner are completed, the loco will be repainted into the overall maroon with yellow buffer beams, a colour scheme it wore when new in October 1962. The ‘Western’ only carried this look until March 1963, when a small yellow warning panel was added and the bufferbeam changed to red. No. D1010 last wore this livery in 2001.
