The latest in an everextending line of perform-the-whole-album tours finds Adam Ant saddling up for a race through 1982’s Friend Or Foe.
After three LPs with The Ants, the former punk had become a pop star, thanks to a flamboyant image, a string of mega-hits, a canny understanding of the power of video, and decent cheekbones. Perfect time to ditch the band and become a fully-fledged solo artiste.
Retaining sideman Marco Pirroni, the solo Adam’s opening gambit notably deviated from his earlier Antmusic template by introducing brass and a more varied set of influences. It may have failed to reach the dizzying sales of its predecessors but Friend Or Foe still provided Adam with three hit singles and became his most successful record Stateside.
