For documenting cultural history, Mick Jagger’s debut solo LP She’s The Boss is fascinating. It’s unfortunate that, as an album, it’s rotten. In 1985, Jagger and Keith Richards’ relationship was at its worst. With The Rolling Stones seemingly finished, hooking up with Nile Rodgers and Bill Laswell should have sparked Jagger’s creativity. Trouble was, Jagger simply didn’t have any. Rather than the “I can get along without you, Keef” message he intended, She’s The Boss is spiritually and sonically bankrupt. Richards was probably howling with laughter at the time, and might play the ludicrous Turn The Girl Loose now whenever he wants to take the Sir Mick.
