KRIS JAMES
Kris James first found fame as lead singer of pop band The Scheme
Liverpool’s Kris James has scored two Top 40 hits with opening singles Eyes Open and Anymore. His third single, the emotive I’ll Be Here, was released on 24 May and he’s also readying a debut solo LP. We catch up with the former frontman of The Scheme for a progress report.
Tell us about I’ll Be Here, we hear it touches on mental health issues…
All the songs I’ve written, both before my band formed and after they split up, were about my life experiences and things that really touch me. After my last single Anymore – which is about escaping the rat race of life to be with the person you love most in the world – I decided to construct an album based on true events and things I could relate back to. Over the years, and especially when my band split, I went through some terrible days of depression and other mental health issues. I put seven years into a project and all of a sudden it was gone because of other people’s actions. I was completely lost. Thank god I was given another chance to make music and carry on as a solo artist. I’ll Be Here came from that.
