FEVER RAY
RADICAL ROMANTICS
RABID
★★★★
If you pine for the days when Björk wrote actual songs, rather than spliced ill-matched instrumentation and caterwauled over it, you’d be advised to check out Fever Ray’s third album. Ex-The Knife vocalist Karen Dreijer is an equally uncompromising Nordic artist, also with a unique drawling vocal style, but leavens this with (hurrah!) some beautiful poppy melodies. Dreijer’s most accessible album since The Knife’s 2006 breakthrough Silent Shout – the lusty, carnal Shiver and the punky Even It Out pulsate like early Human League. Icy, but hospitable. And recommended.
