Given that Madonna has been one of the world’s most photographed women over the past 40 years, it’s surprising just how little her visual iconography has been celebrated in books given that she’s been shot by every renowned imagemaker. While retrospectives will undoubtedly surface at some point, Kenji Wakasugi, a Japanese photographer who was tasked with shooting her during her first trip to his country to promote Like A Virgin, has published Adore, the results of his 1985 shoot with her – most of which are seen here for the very first time.
