THE BLUETONES
SUPERIOR QUALITY RECORDINGS 1994-2002/EXPECTING TO FLY
DEMON
Unfairly lumped in with Britpop’s also-rans these days, Hounslow dreamers The Bluetones were among the era’s most gifted melodicists. Mark Morriss’ wistful vocals atop Adam Devlin’s undervalued way with a yearning guitar line made for songs that provided respite among Britpop’s laddishness. It coalesced beautifully on debut album Expecting To Fly, while sprawling follow-up Return To The Last Chance Saloon showed that they could keep it together melodically, even when caught up in the tailspin toxic atmosphere of Britpop’s fallout.
