With sophisti-pop about to become one of the ruling sounds of the 80s, the band that had done so much to set the scene for The Blue Nile, ABC, Scritti Politti and The Blow Monkeys suddenly exited stage left. found Bryan Ferry and Co. wading into jazzier waters. Part of the reason for the LP’s richer, more sumptuous sound was, as guitarist Phil Manzanera told journalist Rob Chapman: “90 per cent of it was being written in the studio. That album was a product of completely changing our working methods.”
