Jackson Browne
Downhill From
Everywhere INSIDE RECORDINGS
First album since 2014 reflects singer-songwriters longtime political concerns.
The cover image alone is striking – from Edward Burtynsky’s Shipbreaking series, it depicts tiny human beings breaking up the huge, rusting hulk of a decommissioned ship. As with Browne’s music, it’s arresting and thought provoking rather than tub-thumping. Browne is in his early 70s, realises that time is ‘like a fuse, burning shorter every day’, but has the planet, as well as his own mortality, in mind.
