Following up a debut novel like
Mud Sharks
is a big ask. Dave Barbarossa has already played his ace, already stunned cynics with the unexpected revelation that here was a musician – a drummer, mark you, a representative of that noble profession of geezers who hit stuff for a living – who could
actually write. That said, Dave’s no ordinary slapper of the skins. Initially with Adam And The Ants and then, more centrally, with Bow Wow Wow, he expanded the possibilities of post-punk percussion.
Nevertheless, he’s still a musician writing a book.
