Add a Downloads button to the toolbar
Chrome used to show your downloads in a bar across the bottom of the browser, which made them easy to open when ready. Google then relocated downloads to a ‘download bubble’ in the top-right toolbar.
This bubble is more convenient to access and prevents downloads from obscuring the web page you’re viewing. However, it only appears when you start downloading a file, then vanishes when you restart the browser. To retrieve the file after restarting, you need to press Ctrl+J to open Chrome’s ‘Download history’ and open it from there.
To solve this problem, Chrome 135 (released in early April) lets you pin a permanent Downloads button to your toolbar. This means you can access your downloads whenever you want – at the click of a button.
To add this feature to the browser, click the Customise Chrome button in the bottom-right corner of a New Tab page. In the side panel that opens, select Toolbar and switch on the Downloads option in the Your Chrome section ( 1 in our screenshot below).
