In the late 1980s several prototypes made for Royal Doulton’s enduring line of character jugs never made it into production. Among them was Robin Hood by Eric Griffiths, a prison warder by Stanley Taylor and this large prototype of Uncle Sam designed by Harry Sales.
The piece will be offered at Potteries Auctions in Newcastle-under-Lyme on July 13-14 with an estimate of £2000-4000.
