Thousands of items are available to buy from dealers online. Here we pick out one that caught our eye this week. A set of five gilded repoussé copper plaques, 5½in (14cm) high, depicting scenes from the Hindu epic, the Ramayana, are on offer at Jonathan Tucker and Antonia Tozer’s dealership Asian Art Resource.
In the 18th and 19th centuries, the Rammakian, a Thai version of the epic, was frequently adapted into visual artworks. Made in the Bangkok style during the Ratanakosin Period, c.1900, the scene on the plaques depict Lakshamana (brother of the hero Rama) and a masked Indrajita (son of their enemy Ravana) engaged in combat.
