Decoding The Ndss
The National Diabetes Services Scheme (aka the NDSS) provides access to a range of government-subsidised products, support and information services and programs to eligible Australians living with diabetes. Diabetic Living dietitian Dr Kate Marsh explains the benefits of joining the NDSS, how to register if you haven’t already, and the products, services and programs available.
WHAT IS THE NDSS?
The NDSS is an initiative of the Australian government that began in 1987 and is administered by
Diabetes Australia. The aim of the scheme is to support Australians with diabetes in understanding and self-managing their diabetes and to provide them with access to services, support and subsidised diabetes products.
WHO CAN REGISTER WITH THE NDSS?
You can register for the NDSS if you meet the following three criteria:
✓ You live in Australia or are a resident of a country with which Australia has a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement
✓ You have been diagnosed with any type of diabetes by your doctor, or you have another eligible condition requiring regular monitoring of blood glucose levels
✓ You hold (or are eligible to hold) a Medicare card or Department of Veterans Affairs card.
