10 things you can shoot, create and edit this month, from rock bands and Tesla coils to football and puffins
While holidaying by the seaside was popular among the wealthy classes in the 18th century, largely for health reasons, it wasn’t until the Victorian era that a seaside day out became fashionable for the working classes. One of the most popular seaside towns is Blackpool, famous for its illuminations and home to the iconic Tower, built in 1894. So I went there to discover the sights for the day-tripping photographer.
If there’s one thing you can rely on at the seaside, it’s the fickle British weather. Despite being in the middle of June, it was cold, rainy and blowing a gale – no wonder the beach was largely empty. The town’s North Pier was no better, being almost devoid of visitors. Piers are, of course, great subjects and we’ll tackle shooting those in the second part of this article in next month’s issue.
