Camera know-how Auto ISO
The clever feature that’s worth its weight in gold for getting your images just right
By default, the camera’s Auto ISO feature is usually set to work for the whole native ISO range. It depends on what you shoot and your threshold when it comes to image quality, but setting a lower upper limit is advised. For most situations, setting a range of ISO 400 to 3200 is advised. With the higher settings on most cameras capable of producing critically good pictures, any grain will only be noticeable on big images. Many cameras have the extra parameter of setting a minimum shutter speed before ISO adjusts. When the lighting drops, the camera will set slower and slower shutter speeds for the right exposure until it reaches your chosen limit, then the camera starts pushing up the ISO.
