Canon launches EOS R6 III
… and an eye-catching new lens. Popular hybrid mirrorless gets upgrades including a higher-resolution sensor, autofocus improvements and a CFexpress B card slot
Could this be the best hybrid camera on the market? Overwhelmingly positive reaction across the photography media so far suggests it could be a contender. The EOS R6 Mark III succeeds the previous version, which launched in 2022, and features a 32.5MP full-frame sensor – a step up from 24.2MP. Other headline features of the new camera include a 40fps max burst rate (with the electronic shutter), pre-continuous shooting and the addition of a CFexpress Type B card slot, alongside an SD one. And while the video specs are respectable – 7K 60p internal raw capability plus 7K open gate (the ability to capture video across the entire sensor area), the R6 Mark III is a stills-first camera. Also launched last month was the RF 45mm F1.2 STM, a lightning-fast prime at a decidedly competitive sub-£500/$500 price point. With a nine-blade aperture and Super Spectra coating, plus a dedicated control ring, this new prime is low in weight, at 346g, and has a 67mm filter thread size. Both the EOS R6 Mark III and the RF 4mm are available to order now. www.canon.co.uk; £2,799/$2,799 (EOS R6 Mk III, body only). £480/$469 (RF 45mm F1.2)
