By The Way, I Forgive You
I’m a huge fan of Brandi Carlile and have been looking forward to this release for a long time. I’m pleased to say it does not disappoint. I would say this is her best work yet. Not tentatively – I’m saying it. If you don’t think you’re a fan of Americana, just listen to By The Way, I Forgive You and then come back to me. It’s the album that just might change your mind. Carlile’s soulful, perfectly-placed vocals are reminiscent of warm, acoustic days gone by. Musicians enjoying the energy of playing together, and Carlile is not really a solo artist in many ways – working with long-time collaborators and band-mates Tim and Phil Hanseroth, they blend flawlessly as a trio. Live, too. I saw her at a small gig at Concorde 2 in Brighton when I was pregnant with my twins in 2016. A perfect night out for someone not having a beer! The band were just awesome – like poetry.
