c.1660-70 embroidery miniature of Charles I – £30,000 at Mellors & Kirk.
Of such high quality that they justifiy the description ‘cabinet miniatures’, examples of a small group of silk and metal thread embroideries of Charles I can be seen in the V&A and Wallace Collection in London and in the New York Met.
Another could be seen at Nottingham auction house Mellors & Kirk (24% buyer’s premium) where it was the star of the September 22 sale which attracted interest from UK and US collectors.
