A Paula Rego (b.1935) print was among the works bringing interest at a charity sale held by Dorchester saleroom Duke’s to support a disability centre. Sloth 1935 (shown left), a 16¼ x 11½in (41 x 29cm) lithograph was one of a number of monochrome works by the artist that were printed at The Curwen Studio and published by Marlborough Graphics.
Rego is best known for her figurative paintings but, in reference to printmaking, she said: “I turn to etching and lithography with a sense of exuberance and relief. In printmaking you can give your imagination full-range and see the results almost immediately. So one image triggers the idea for the next one and so on.”
