GROUND HOPPER
CAMPO GERINI
ITALY
Rome’s Stadio Olimpico is the venue for Euro 2020’s curtain-raiser between Italy and Turkey on June 11, yet the Eternal City’s most picturesque ground is 10 miles away on the opposite side of town. The Campo Gerini may not play host to Ciro Immobile, Edin Dzeko & Co – instead staging amateur football – but it’s situated right next to the Felice aqueduct, which was completed in 1586 after a full 18 months of construction work. Well, Rome wasn’t built in a day, you know.
