THE FINAL GOODBYE
After 695 games in 17 years with Doncaster, James Coppinger’s playing days are at an end. Next up, a statue? As long as it’s not like that one of Ronaldo...
In the long history of the Football League, only 20 men have played more than 600 league matches for one club – and James Coppinger is one of them.
In 17 years at Doncaster, Coppinger played 614 league games – putting him in the company of greats like the Charlton brothers, Ryan Giggs, Ron Harris and Billy Bonds. Having signed from Exeter for just £30,000 in 2004, his 695 outings in all competitions worked out at just £43.17 a match.
